The Tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle. It’s name in Chinese is ch’i ch’iao t’u which means, an ingenious puzzle figure of seven pieces, and down through the centuries it has continued to intrigue and delight. The classic rules are as follows: You must use all seven pieces called Tans, they must lay flat, they must touch and none may overlap.
To start with, you simply rearrange the seven Tans to match a number of designs. When you have mastered the pre-designed patterns, you can make up you own. These images can be either geometric in nature or patterned after a familiar object. It is not as easy as it first appears.
