Natural inspiration

Wood-look tiles continue as a central theme in international trends and for good reason. The uber-realistic designs and patterns mean that you can replicate the richness of real wood floors but without the maintenance.

Wood-look tiles won’t warp with the moisture in a bathroom, as real wood would do. This gives you a stunning way to bring a nurturing, natural feel into your space. Pair the tiles with a matching mosaic or décor tile to add interest and create a focal point in the room. The latest trend pairs wood-look with marble-look for a stylish, modern feel.

Top Tip:

When installing wood-look planks, be sure to keep to a 30% offset to create the most realistic effect.

Indoor-Outdoor living

Patio living, even in Winter, is common for South Africans given our milder winters and the glowing warmth of a firepit or braai to keep the chill at bay. Stone-look and cement-look tiles are ideal for tiling both your indoor and outdoor spaces, embracing open-plan living.

For added interest, add a bespoke cut décor tile in the same colour, or a tone lighter or darker than your tiles. This adds interest without breaking the flow of the room. Use it to direct attention to a focal area such as a feature wall or as a pattern in the floor

Top Tip:

Be sure to select a tile that offers a matching slip-resistant finish for the patio, to enhance that seamless transition between your living spaces.

High-end appeal

Polished porcelain and glossy floor tiles add an element of luxury to a modern home. Use porcelain tiles in high traffic areas, whilst a glossy ceramic tile is well suited for most of the areas in your home. The highly reflective surface brings light into a small space and complements a very contemporary yet elegant style. This type of tile doesn’t need special layouts such as diagonals, as the gleaming shine is statement enough.

Top Tip:

To keep that polished look, be sure to use a tile cleaner that doesn’t leave a waxy residue which will dull the shine over time. View our range of specialist cleaners

Décor tiles and mosaics

Bespoke cut décor tiles, mosaics and listellos are a wonderful way to personalise your space. Use these either in a matching tile or colour for a subtle yet effective feature. Alternatively, add some drama by using a highly contrasting colour or pattern, for a bold statement in the room.

Top Tip:

Tile grout can also add drama to a room by either matching or contrasting the grout colour to your tiles.

Accessorise for bathroom success

Nothing pulls a bathroom together more than a matching set of accessories that complement the taps, bathroomware and tiles you’ve chosen. The small details of how you finish the room, give the final polish to the look.

Pay attention to the details, as shown here, where the circular basin is paired with a curved towel holder and the softer lines of the curved tap to really bring it all together.

If you’ve chosen a modern, square styled tap, basin or bath, then repeat that modern aesthetic with the towel rails, toilet roll holders and soap holders for a cohesive effect.

Top Tip:

Towels in the latest seasonal colours are the finishing touch for a beautifully designed space in which all the elements work together to showcase your personal style.

Whether you are drawn to the warmth of wood, the industrial appeal of cement or a modern glossy tile, planning the layout and matching décor will make all the difference. It all depends on your individual sense of style and the look that you want to create in your space.
